SWEET ORANGES: THE MOVIE TRI DESTINED STUDIOS TRI DESTINED STUDIOS TRI DESTINED STUDIOS

   FILM MAKERS

His name is jeffrey Lindsay Relf but his clients simply know him as Jeffrey.

Jeffrey is a costume designer for the motion picture, television, music video and fashion industry. Some of his latest work can be seen on numerous indie films (Two Degrees, Sweet Oranges, and Our Journey), Music Videos (Jill Scott and Mocha Soul featuring Kim Fields) HBO Film (Dancing In September) and oh so much more.

When Jeffrey was asked how he broke into the industry, he responded "FAITH, DETERMINATION, and HARDWORK."

Just as actors, directors, writers, and other artist know, television and film are the hardest mediums to get into because of union restrictions that can be a catch 22.

Jeffrey, however, does not let that bother him. Instead he stays focused ont the task at hand... costuming.

For some of us who might not know exactly what a costume designer does on a film project , I asked Jeffrey to give our readers some insight.

Jeffrey said that the job varies from project to project but often there are some duties that are consistent on every project:

  • Reading the script and evaluating each character's style.
  • Meeting the lead actor and helping him/her visually evolve into their character. (For extras the task may not involve meeting them prior to; it may just be a descriptive phone call.)
  • Buying wardrobe and picking out accessaries that make each character have their own flair, style, and diversity.
  • Finally, being on set to help the director keep warddrobe continuity.

For anybody that has ever worked on a legit production set. They know the value of a costume designer. It is not an easy to task to visually make each character come to life. Therefore, Jeffrey gets our applause in this edition of the filmmakers circle.
